We are very excited to announce our proposed band trip this year:
For the first time ever, the Sarasota High School Mighty Sailor Band will be marching in the Official St. Patrick's Day Parade in Chicago! Yes, the very same parade where the Chicago River is dyed GREEN. You will find details below. Please note that all dates and itinerary are tentative, all prices are approximate. We are working hard to cement all details of the trip as soon as possible, and will inform you as soon as we do.
WHO: All students in the Sarasota High School band program
WHEN: Thursday, March 10, 2011 - Sunday, March 13, 2011 (NOTE: this trip will take place during Sarasota High School's spring break)
WHERE: Travel from Tampa International Airport to Chicago O'Hare - hotel to be announced
WHAT: March in the downtown Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 12th. The parade is televised on WLS ABC-7 in Chicago(http://abclocal.go.com/wls/index). Tentative sights we'll see: The Magnificent Mile, Field Museum of Natural History, Navy Pier, MOSI, Skydeck Chicago, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, John G. Shedd Aquarium & Oceanarium, and more!
COST: $850.00/per person, approximately. Includes airfare, accommodations and sightseeing tours.
$75 Trip deposit is due September 10th. Payment options:
- Write a check, place it in an envelope, write your student's name and "Chicago Trip Deposit" on the front, ask you student to place it into the BLACK BOX in the band room.
- Pay on-line using our Pay My Fees page.
The tour group will be mailing payment coupons to each participant and your monthly payments will be handled directly with them. If you wish to apply money from student accounts, please contact Cindy Marrero to do so (treasurer@mightysailorband.org).
Please note: Your deposit is FULLY REFUNDABLE until up to 30 days before travel. If you purchase the trip insurance, your entire trip will be refundable up until the date of travel, less the cost of insurance.
HOW: FUNDRAISING!! Beginning this summer, we will form a fundraising committee that will organize and launch our Chicago fundraisers. We'll be doing everything from an Irish-American concert and dinners at Carrabbas, to car washes and "Uncle George" letters. Please contact Missy McNatt (fundraiser@mightysailorband.org) to jump on board this committee and help brainstorm for some fun and creative ways to help send our kids to Chicago!
And, of course, we will be needing chaperones! If you are interested in taking this trip with your son or daughter, please contact our vounteer coordinator, Candace Wrobel, at volunteer@mightysailorband.org. You will need to register at the beginning of the school year with the PALS organization.
