Official Navy Uniform

At Sarasota High School we pride ourselves on being the only band in America given express permission from the Secretary of the Navy to wear Official US Navy uniforms. In keeping with this tradition we have found that it is time to update, replace, and complete the uniform scheme. We are reaching out to the community — in particular the veterans — for their support in keeping this unique tradition of honor and recognition alive.

Crakerjack

The first Navy Uniform of the Mighty Sailor Band was the "Crackerjack" uniform. Since its debut, we have worn black pants with white tops. In this campaign we will purchase the regulation white pants so that we can wear the uniform accurately. This idea comes from wearing the proper black crackerjacks to Washington DC last year as we performed at the US Naval Academy and won first place at a national parade competition hosted in Virginia. Crowds stopped to admire the band, increasing the students sense of pride, honor, and confidence.

Concert Dress Blues

In 2006 the Mighty Sailor Band changed its concert attire from a non-descript concert black (students wearing their own black clothes) to a mock-up of the Dinner Dress Blues worn by the US Navy Band in performance. Funds raised in this campaign will go towards purchasing skirts and tops for the women — who are currently wearing formal pants and "wingtip" tux shirts. At every performance judges comment on the professional look the band presents. By purchasing the necessary items to complete the regulation uniform, we will be able to look the part as we play the part.

Auxiliary

The auxiliary unit of the Mighty Sailor Band is an important part of the pageantry we display at football games, in parades, and at concerts. In order to complete the look of the Mighty Sailor Band we will be outfitting the colorguard and dancers in a "Sailorette" uniform. One that may by likened to — but much more modest than — a WWII pin-up. Any funds raised above those necessary for the crackerjack and concert dress uniforms will go directly towards to purchase of the auxiliary uniform. We are in the process of finding local seamstresses to help make the uniforms.
